Donation Food to AFAC for Thanksgiving

Please Remember Those in Need This Thanksgiving
“From Our Altar to Their Tables”

This Thanksgiving St. John’s is collecting bags of food
donations for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) 
through Sunday November 21.

  • Pick up your bag to be filled at the back of the church or from the church office, or call Faye Pritchard, 703-931-2168.
  • Choose items from the list below to fill your bag.
  • Return your filled bag inside the church (last pew on right) or to the Pritchards’ porch, 5713 5th Street South, a half-block from the church. (The church administrator is in Monday - Thursday 9:30 - 2:30)
  • The donations will be blessed at the service on Sunday November 21.
  • If you would rather, you can make a monetary donation, the instructions are below.

The AFAC Thanksgiving Shopping List

  • Low-sugar cereal
  • Canned tomatoes
  • Canned tuna
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned soups
  • Peanut butter (in plastic jars)
  • Canned vegetables
  • Cooking oil
  • Dried spaghetti (not canned)
  • Canned milk
  • Condiments: Salsa, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salt and pepper
  • Seasonings: Brown and cane sugar, poultry seasoning, sage, ginger, vanilla extract, other spice

No canned pumpkin or cranberry sauce, please. AFAC always gets more than enough. When choosing items, please look for those that are low sodium, no salt added, no sugar added, unsweetened, etc. No glass jars.

To Donate Money for Thanksgiving Meals

You can also contribute money to support AFAC clients this Thanksgiving season. As a guide a $25 donation will provide a Thanksgiving meal for one family. You cane either send a check to AFAC or write the check to St. John's and note on the memo line AFAC. You can also go to the AFAC website and make an on-line donation.
